  • Session durations vary depending on individual age needs and therapy plans but typically range from 30-45 minutes.

  • Insurance & Coverage Information
    Coverage for myofunctional therapy varies by provider. Some dental and health care spending accounts may cover our services. The procedure code most commonly used is 05012, though it is currently only covered by Sun Life.

    FaceFirst Dental Hygiene Inc. does not offer direct billing—all fees must be paid upfront. We provide detailed receipts with procedure codes and your hygienist’s UIN for you to submit for reimbursement. Claim forms are available upon request.

    To request a pre-authorization, email info@facefirstmyo.cawith your insurance provider’s name. We’ll send a form for you to complete and submit directly. Please note that responses can take up to four months, and insurers rarely update us directly. If they do, we’ll notify you.

    Some plans may offer coverage under speech-language pathology benefits, but this applies only if services are provided by a licensed SLP. As a dental hygiene clinic, we do not have SLPs on staff.

  • While a referral is not mandatory, we encourage collaboration with your dentist, healthcare provider, and other treatment professionals to ensure comprehensive care and address any underlying dental or medical concerns.

  • The number of sessions required for each person will vary based on their individual treatment plan. Myofunctional therapy is divided into phases: the initial phase involves weekly sessions for 8 weeks, followed by bi-weekly sessions, with follow-ups varying based on the need for neurological repatterning of oral habits.

    Results can differ, but many people notice improvements within a few weeks to months. Consistency and commitment to the recommended exercises are key to achieving the best outcomes—what you put in is what you get out!

  • No! Myofunctional Therapy is for all ages!

    While it's frequently recommended for children to address issues like tongue tie, tongue thrust, thumb-sucking, and mouth breathing, which support healthy oral development, Orofacial Myofunctional Therapy is also beneficial for teens and adults. Often, myofunctional dysfunction arises from factors such as late jaw growth, worsening malocclusion over time, or even tooth loss. Therapy is typically effective for adults, and individuals of all ages can achieve positive results.
